496 foreign commercial ships docked at Mongla Port in 7 months

The number of foreign commercial ships arriving at Mongla Port has increased compared to the previous year.
In the first seven months of the 2024-2025 financial year, a total of 496 ships docked at Mongla Port, said the port's Public Relation Deputy Director Md Makruzzaman.
During this period, 6,562,300 tonnes of goods were imported and exported. This included the loading and unloading of 12,083 used containers from 23 container ships, as well as the unloading of 6,751 reconditioned vehicles from 12 vehicle ships.
Several measures have been taken to increase the number of ships arriving at Mongla Port during the current fiscal year, according to port sources.
As part of these efforts, 83 foreign commercial ships docked at Mongla Port in January 2025, compared to 76 in January 2024, marking an increase of seven ships.
Mongla Port has also witnessed the export of garment products since July 28, 2022, and the import of frozen fruits since December 12, 2023.
According to the port authority, Mongla Port is a key driver of economic development in the southwestern region of Bangladesh. It has hundreds of thousands of jobs in the area and plays a vital role in the country's development by importing a variety of goods, including food grains, raw materials for cement production, clinker, fertilisers, automobiles, machinery, rice, wheat, coal, oil, stone, corn, oilseeds, and LPG gas.
The port also exports white fish, shrimp, jute and jute products, frozen food, crabs, clay tiles, silk cloth, and general cargo.
