SpiceJet to operate Chattogram-Kolkata flights from 5 Nov
The airline plans to operate flights on the route four times a week
SpiceJet, the low-cost Indian airline, will operate flights between Kolkata and Chattogram from 5 November this year.
With the operation of these flights four times a week from Chattogram's Shah Amanat International Airport, it will become the first-ever flight operations of SpiceJet on the Kolkata-Chattogram-Kolkata route.
SpiceJet Manager (Sales) Zahidul Hasan told The Business Standard that SpiceJet will operate flights from Chattogram Airport to Kolkata every week on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Many Bangladeshis go to Kolkata for various reasons including medical treatment. With that in mind, SpiceJet decided to operate a new route for this passenger service, he added.
The airline plans to operate daily flights once the Covid-19 situation is resolved. It also plans to operate flights on other routes from Chattogram in phases, Zahidul Hasan added.
As a low-cost carrier, SpiceJet passengers will get priority to travel to Chennai, Delhi, Bombay, and Bangalore from Kolkata through connecting flights.
Apart from Chattogram, SpiceJet has regular flights from Dhaka airport to Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, India.
Before the Covid-19 outbreak, national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines, private airlines USBangla and Regent Airways operated Chattogram-Kolkata flights.
SpiceJet sources said the flights will leave Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport for Chattogram at 10:05am and will land at Shah Amanat Airport at 11:45am. On the way back, it will leave Chattogram for Kolkata at 12:30pm.
The airline has set a one-way fare of Tk5,613 for the Chittagong-Kolkata route, with return tickets costing Tk10,104.
Shah Amanat International Airport Manager Wing Commander Md Farhad Hossain Khan told The Business Standard that on 5 November, SpiceJet will operate flights on this route for the first time.
Bangladesh Airlines, USBangla and NovoAir are planning to operate flights on this route during the winter season, he added.
