Bank accounts of ex-MP Bahauddin, his wife, daughters frozen
The banks have been instructed to submit the details of all accounts associated with them within the next two days
The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has ordered all banks to freeze the accounts of former Cumilla MP AKM Bahauddin Bahar and his daughter Tahsina Bahar Shuchona, former mayor of Cumilla City Corporation.
The BFIU has sent a letter to all banks in this regard today (26 September).
Additionally, the accounts of Bahar's wife, Mehrunnesha, his other daughters - Ayman Bahar and Aziza Bahar, as well as Tahsin Bahar's husband Saiful Alam Roni have also been frozen.
The banks have been instructed to submit the details of all accounts associated with them within the next two days.
Following the fall of Awami League government on 5 August, the bank accounts of several former ministers, MPs, prominent AL leaders and their family members are being frozen.
Many members of the former Sheikh Hasina-led government are accused of accumulating substantial amounts of wealth illegally.
According to the wealth statement in his affidavit submitted to the Election Commission before the 5 January national election, former Cumilla-6 lawmaker AKM Bahauddin has tripled his wealth over the last five years.
Bahar's property increased by Tk24.66 crore.
Besides, the affidavit mentions several crores worth of property in his wife and daughters's name.
