Solar powered electricity launched by PHP
PHP Family, a renowned leading industrial group in the country, has added a new dimension to the country's solar energy sector.
The company has started its own power generation by installing solar panels on its textile mill and steel mill roofs.
On Tuesday, PHP Family Chairman Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman inaugurated the solar power generation activities at the Kumira factory in Sitakunda-upazila of Chittagong.
Vice Chairman Mohammad Mohsin, Director Anwarul Haque, Amir Hossain Sohel, Zahirul Islam Rinku, Management Intern Victor Mizan Mohsin, and Executive Director Shafiqur Rahman Khan were present.
In the initial stage, 1,740-kilowatt solar panels were installed in the two factories. The target is to generate about 2,000 megawatts of electricity annually from these panels, which will reduce carbon emissions by about 1,100 tons. PHP will generate electricity from sunlight and use it in its factories, saving electricity consumption.
Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, Director of the Energy Research Centre of United International University and renewable energy expert, welcomed this initiative of PHP Family. Solar energy is an environmentally friendly energy source. Using it reduces carbon emissions and helps reduce the rate of climate change.
An official of the PHP Family, Shafiqur Rahman Khan, said, "They have plans to install solar panels on the roofs of other institutions as well. This will make it possible to meet a significant part of the company's total electricity needs from its sources."
