Southeast University holds memorial discussion and prayer for anti-discrimination movement martyrs
Southeast University organized a discussion and prayer ceremony on September 12 to honour the memory of the university's students who were martyred in the anti-discrimination student movement. The event commemorated Martyr Md. Rabbi Mia, Martyr Rakib Hossain, Martyr Imtiaz Ahmed Jabir, Martyr Robiul Islam Limon, and other martyrs across Bangladesh.
The ceremony, held at the university's multipurpose hall, was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam. Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Mofazzal Hossain, family members of the martyrs, and their classmates delivered speeches. In a written statement, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr. Rezaul Karim, extended condolences to the families and praised the martyrs' bravery as a source of inspiration for the country.
Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dean of Southeast Business School and Convener of the event Implementation Committee, gave the inaugural speech. The event was attended by university officials, faculty members, staff, and students. Before the ceremony, plaques bearing the martyrs' names were unveiled at university halls named in their honour.
Each of the four martyrs' families received a check for 10 lakh taka. The ceremony concluded with a prayer led by Dr. Md. Ataur Rahman Miazi, Professor of Islamic History and Culture at Dhaka University.
