Uttara University hosts 9th convocation
Uttara University hosts 9th Convocation on 25 January at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre. Professor Dr. M Aminul Islam, Special Assistant (State Minister's Status) at the Ministry of Education, presided over the ceremony on behalf of the Chancellor and Honorable President of Bangladesh, Mohammed Shahabuddin. The event's chief guest was Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossen, Member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Bangladesh. The convocation speaker, Professor Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Chairman of Grameen Bank and Vice-Chancellor of North South University, also addressed the gathering.
Professor Dr. M Aminul Islam highlighted the importance of developing soft skills, values, and language proficiency alongside higher education, saying, "Uttara University plays a vital role in advancing research and ensuring the quality of higher education. This university will produce skilled graduates to lead the future of Bangladesh."
In his remarks, Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossen urged the graduates to utilize their knowledge and skills for the betterment of society, the nation, and their communities. Convocation speaker Professor Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury emphasized the need for persistence, hard work, and passion to achieve success.
Uttara University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Eaysmin Ara Lekha, congratulated the graduating students and encouraged them to play a role in building an ideal society guided by ethics, integrity, and patriotism. A total of 3,497 students received graduation and post-graduation degrees during the ceremony, with two students earning the prestigious Chancellor's Gold Medal for outstanding academic performance. Thirty-five other students were honored with Trustee, VC, and Dean's Awards.
The convocation was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Founding Vice-Chancellor of Uttara University, Professor Dr. M Azizur Rahman, along with intellectuals, government officials, representatives from private and public universities, faculty members, journalists, and other distinguished guests.
The event concluded with a vibrant musical performance by Bangladesh's popular pop band 'Warfaze.'
