Workshop on applications and training using novel industrial lasers held at AIUB
A workshop titled "The Rise of Industrial Lasers: Applications, Innovations, and Hands-on Training" was held at the Faculty of Engineering, AIUB, in collaboration with the Industrial Engineering & Operation Management (IEOM) AIUB Student Chapter on Sunday, 24 November 2024.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice Chancellor of AIUB, who welcomed the participants and the resource persons from Shenzhen CKD Precision Mechanical & Electrical Co. Ltd. He discussed various types of lasers, their benefits, and shared his own contributions to laser-related research projects.
Mr. Wenjun Gong, Deputy General Manager (Bangladesh Section) of Shenzhen CKD Precision Mechanical & Electrical Co., Ltd., introduced the evolution of laser technology, detailing its early industrial applications and rapid advancements in areas such as laser marking, welding, and cutting. He highlighted key innovations in laser equipment, including UV Laser Marking Machines, Flying Fiber Laser Marking Machines, and Laser Welding Machines. He also discussed the role of laser technology in automation, precision manufacturing, and emerging fields such as smart manufacturing and sustainable development. Furthermore, he provided insights into Shenzhen CKD's growth, research achievements, global market presence, and patented innovations in laser equipment.
Following the presentation, participants attended a hands-on demonstration session at the Industrial and Production Engineering Laboratory. The session focused on three key laser operations: UV Laser Marking Machine, Flying Fiber Laser Marking Machines, and the 1500-Watt Laser Welding Machine. Students experienced live demonstrations of material marking, engraving, cutting, and welding, showcasing the versatility and efficiency of laser technologies.
Approximately 200 students attended the workshop. The practical session was conducted by Mr. Bai Yongming, Managing Director (CN), Mr. Pan Lin, Chief Technical Engineer (CN), and Md Asif Adnan, Maintenance Engineer of Shenzhen CKD (Alumnus of EEE dept. AIUB). Dr. Md. Ehasanul Haque, Head of the Department of Industrial and Production Engineering at AIUB, along with other faculty members and officials, also participated in the workshop.
The event offered students from the IPE and EEE departments valuable insights into cutting-edge laser applications and technologies, enhancing their practical understanding through hands-on training.
