Ex-president, GS demand cancellation of Anvir-led Bajus board
The former president and general secretary of the Bangladesh Jeweller's Association (Bajus) called for the dissolution of the current board of directors, led by Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir, and the appointment of an administrator.
They made the call at a press conference held at Baitul Mukarram Market on Wednesday (28 August).
During the press conference, former Bajus President Enamul Haque Khan criticised the formation of an election commission, which violated the association's constitution and trade association principles, under the leadership of Anvir.
He alleged that Anvir declared himself president without any competition, establishing his residence as an election office and preventing ordinary candidates from participating.
"We urge the interim government to dissolve the current Bajus committee and appoint an administrator to safeguard this promising sector from the clutches of the mafia and ensure that gold prices are affordable for the public," Enamul Haque said.
He also requested the government's cooperation in organising an inclusive election of the association as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, in a press release issued yesterday (27 August), Bajus general secretary Badal Chandra Roy emphasised the unity of the association under the leadership of its President Sayem Sobhan Anvir.
He claimed that a vested quarter is involved in a conspiracy to damage Bajus's reputation and urged the public to remain vigilant regarding this matter.
