4 new factories to join Srihatta Economic Zone
The construction will hopefully be completed by mid-2022
The foundation stone laying ceremony of four new factories joining the Srihatta Economic Zone in Sylhet's Moulvibazar was held today.
The Palmal Group is building Ayesha Clothing Limited and Asowad Composite Limited, read a press release. The other two establishments are Great Wall Ceramics Limited and Double Glazing Limited.
The investors were present on the occasion and KM Mahtab Uddin of the Palmal Group hoped that the construction would be completed by mid-2022.

Md Khaleduzzaman, executive director of Great Wall Ceramics Ltd, said their factory is going to be built maintaining 100% international standards.
He added that his organization plans to create employment for more than 2000 people, investing around Tk800 crore in this economic zone.
Barrister Moinul Islam, managing director of Double Glazing Limited, said their industrial establishment would produce 100% energy-efficient products in the economic zone and play a significant role in maintaining environmental balance.
Paban Chowdhury, executive chairman of Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (Beza), presided over the stone laying ceremony.
After congratulating the investors, he hoped that the construction work will be completed as soon as possible to open employment opportunities within the economic zone.
He added that Beza has kept up their momentum even during the ongoing pandemic. He hoped that as Sylhet's first economic zone, Srihatta Economic Zone will play a significant role in the overall economy of the country.
Moulvibazar District Deputy Commissioner, Mir Nahid Ahsan, who was also present on the occasion, said various plans have already been made to create skilled and demand-driven manpower in the economic zone. He assured the investors of maximum cooperation from the administration.
Srihatta Economic Zone is located on some 352 acres of land at Sherpur in Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila. The economic zone will play an important role in decentralization of industries and employment of about 44,000 people in Sylhet division.
Some 231 acres of land was allotted to six companies where 19 factories will be built. The six companies hope to invest about $1.4 billion in the economic zone.
Four of the six companies have started construction so far on about 42 acres of land, investing $118 million which should create employment for 5500 people.
