Industries ministry at the top in project implementation

The Ministry of Industries is at the forefront of megaproject implementation among ministries till May 2020. Out of 15 ministries with large allocations, the Ministry of Industries has implemented a maximum of 79.03 percent of the Annual Development Program (ADP) within this time.

This information was given at the Revised Annual Development Program (RADP) review online meeting for the 2019-20 fiscal year on Sunday, presenting a review of the ADP implementation progress report by the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) of the Ministry of Planning.

Five more new licenses have been applied for to the Ministry of Home Affairs to increase the sales of alcohol produced by Carew and Company. Besides, strict instructions were issued not to employ temporary workers in the factories under the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) without the approval of the head office. 

The meeting also called for the expeditious setting up of waste treatment plants or ETPs in 14 sugar mills under the BSFIC.

Speaking as the chief guest at the meeting, the industries minister said production should be continued in compliance with the health-safety rules of tackling the Covid-19 situation. He called upon officials to be more proactive in making the industries under the ministry profitable. 

He directed the completion of the work of 13 buffer warehouses under construction for the conservation of fertiliser, and suggested the implementation of 34 new buffer warehouses through the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation for speedy completion of the construction.

The industries minister ordered expediting the construction of the Ghorashal Palash Urea Fertiliser Factory, the only mega-project of the industries ministry. He wants not only the progress of the project but also the implementation of these within the stipulated time. Therefore, the pace of work must be continued at any cost. 

The minister also ordered expediting the implementation of the incentive package announced for the industrial sector to overcome the corona outbreak situation.

State minister for industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder ordered the completion of the remaining work of the Central Waste Treatment Plant or CTP in the leather industry city of Savar as soon as possible before the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. 

He said valuable chemical fertiliser remains unprotected due to a lack of an adequate number of buffer warehouses, which is detrimental to the quality of fertilisers. 

The state minister called upon Carew and Company to take advantage of the possibility of exporting alcoholic beverages abroad by modernising its manufacturing process. He said the steps taken to modernise the sugar mills under the ministry need to be implemented expeditiously. 

In his speech, industries secretary AK Ali Azam said the projects need to be taken forward quickly keeping in view the progress of financial and practical work. 

Instructing the officers to abide by the decisions taken at various meetings with sincerity, he said the officers of the ministry and its affiliated departments should be methodical and performance-oriented in implementing the development activities of the ministry.
