12 injured as RMG workers in Gazipur protest, clash with police
Police fired shotguns and several rounds of teargas to bring the situation under control
At least 12 people, including police officials, got injured when garment workers in Gazipur demonstrated demanding unpaid wages and over reopening of factories on Wednesday.
The workers blocked Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highway during the protest. They also clashed with the police, with both chasing each other.
Police fired several rounds of teargas and shotguns to bring the situation under control.

Gazipur industrial police said several thousand garment workers demonstrated over the decision to reopen factories to a limited extent and demanded reappointment of all the workers.
Workers of several factories also protested demanding payment of full wages.
The protesters said they were risking their lives to continue work but still the owners said they would get just 60 percent of the salaries.
We will get even more needy if they do this, the workers said.
Sushant Sarker, additional superintendent of Gazipur industrial police, said, "Factory owners decided to cut 40 percent of the salaries as per the labour law. But workers of several textile factories demanded that full wages be paid."
