Task force recommends forming NBR committee to develop economic growth strategies
It also recommends the implementation of Automatic Traffic Signaling
A task force formed by the planning ministry has recommended the formation of a high-powered committee by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to develop strategies to boost the economy.
The committee should include balanced representation from the private sector, civil society, and government to assess, evaluate, and recommend ways to restructure the NBR, aiming to eliminate inconsistent, arbitrary, and discriminatory policies or regulatory barriers related to customs, VAT, and taxes, according to the recommendation report sent to media by the Planning Ministry.
The taskforce stated that policy innovations from the NBR, such as back-to-back LC and the bonded warehouse system, have transformed the RMG industry. These innovations should be continuously encouraged, rather than solely focusing on revenue collection.
It also recommends the implementation of Automatic Traffic Signaling.
According to the taskforce officials, they recommend selecting a specific public hospital in Dhaka for comprehensive reform. This initiative would involve appointing qualified hospital administrators instead of generalists and establishing a new governing board.
