First batch of Indian transshipment goods reaches Chattogram
Bangladesh gets total Tk28,907 for the maiden 102-tonne Indian transshipment goods
The much-anticipated first consignment of Indian goods under the trial run of the transshipment deal between Dhaka and Delhi arrived in Chattogram port on Tuesday.
The ship, MV Shejyoti carrying four TEUs (20-foot equivalent unit) transshipment goods from India's Haldia port, anchored at the New Mooring Container Terminal-1 at around 1.40 pm.
The containers laden with a 102 tonne consignment – 53tonnes of rods and 49 tonnes of pulse – will be heading to Agartala through Akhaura Land Port in Brahmanbaria by prime movers after offloading.

The consignment will hit the road after uploading on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, said Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Md Omar Faruk.
From Agartala, the consignment of rods will be brought to West Tripura's Jirania area, while the pulse will go to Karimganj in Assam.
Chattogram Customs House has formed an escort team comprising of three assistant revenue officers who will smoothen the road trip of the consignment from the port to the border. This team will hand over the goods to the Customs Excise and Vat Commissionerate Cumilla. Chattogram Customs will get an escort charge of Tk5,100 for the service.
In the meantime, KJ Shipping – the clearing and forwarding agent for unloading the goods from the ship –said it has paid the Customs house Tk28,907 for seven types of fees.
The charges are – document processing fee, transshipment fee, security fee, escort fee, miscellaneous administrative fee, container scanning fee and electric lock and seal fee.
The ship carrying 300 TEU containers – Bangladeshi imports and transshipment goods – arrived at the outer anchorage of the port on Tuesday at dawn. Later the port pilots took it to the port jetty.
In October, 2018, the two neighbors signed the transshipment deal to transport Indian goods to its north-eastern states through Bangladesh waters. Subsequently in 2019, Bangladesh and India finalised the standard operating procedure (SoP) in this regard.
The transshipment will enable neighboring India to transport goods to its north-eastern states quickly and easily.
