Rehab fair begins in Chattogram Thursday
The target from selling and booking of apartments is Tk450 crore
The real estate trade body is going to organise a four-day fair beginning at the port city's Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View on Thursday.
Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Karim will inaugurate the 13th edition of the fair organised by the Real Estate Housing Association of Bangladesh (Rehab).
Also, lawmaker Nurunnabi Chowdhury, Chattogram City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, and Chattogram Development Authority Chairman Zahirul Alam Dubash will be present as special guests.
Rehab has set a target of Tk450 crore from the selling and booking of apartments this season, said Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury, chairman of the real estate trade body's Chattogram regional committee.
"We earned as much as Tk350 crore from selling and booking flats during the last Rehab fair in Chattogram in 2019. And 55 organisations will be part of this year's fair'," Abdul Qaiyum said at a press conference on Tuesday.
"As many as 1,001 developers of Rehab are working to meet the growing population of the country. The sector has employed nearly 35 lakh people, and its contribution to the economic growth amounts to 15 percent.
"The sector is also creating new entrepreneurs. The government's 5 percent housing loan has revitalised the housing sector."
However, Abdul Qaiyum claimed that the housing sector would face a crisis if the bulk of the population is not brought under long-term housing loans, and bank lending rates are not lowered.
Single entry ticket to the fair will cost Tk50 while the price of multiple entry ticket will be Tk100.
