Upazila chairman administers vaccine instead of nurse in Kushtia
Abdul Mannan Khan who is also the president of the Upazila Awami League, gave vaccines to three people while the trained nurses were standing by
Some pictures and a video featuring Kumarkhali upazila chairman Abdul Mannan pushing vaccines to people at Kumarkhali Upazila Health Complex instead of nurses has gone viral.
On Sunday, the Covid-19 vaccination drive in different upazilas of Kushtia began as the country rolled out a mass immunisation campaign on this day.
There were also trained nurses for vaccination at the health complex. However, Abdul Mannan Khan who is also the president of the Upazila Awami League, gave vaccines to three people while the trained nurses were standing by. Nurses and physicians helped the chairman with the inoculations.
The vaccine receivers are Kumarkhali Upazila Social Service Officer Mohammad Ali, the health complex worker Mokhlesur Rahman and local journalist KMR Shaheen.
Experts criticised the incident of pushing vaccines by a public representative instead of a trained nurse as very horrible. On condition of anonymity, they said no one can push it except skilled nurses, doctors or medical authorised persons, reports the daily Desh Rupantor.
When contacted Kushtia Civil Surgeon HM Anwarul Islam said that he (Upazila Chairman) could not do it in any way. Nurses have been trained vaccination. They can provide vaccines. There is no question of doing the job by anyone else.
"I do not know the matter and will look into it," said the civil surgeon.
