NBR extends income tax return submission deadline by 15 days
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for submitting income tax returns to 16 February.
The last date for submitting income tax returns of all categories of taxpayers except those of companies for the 2024-2025 fiscal year was 31 January.
The revenue authority issued an order today (30 January) extending the time for submission of income tax returns for both online e-return and offline filing of paper returns for all taxpayers except companies for the convenience of taxpayers.
It also extended the deadline for companies to submit tax returns by one month till 16 March.
In the fiscal year 2023-24, over 40 lakh tax returns were submitted by individual taxpayers.
"As of 27 January, more than 34 lakh returns have already been submitted, and we expect this number to reach 50 lakh by the end of June," said an NBR official.
Last year, around 5 lakh taxpayers filed their returns online, a number that has already exceeded 12 lakh as of 27 January, according to the official.
