Tilak Varma creates history with third consecutive T20 century
This was his third T20 hundred in just 10 days.
India's rising star, Tilak Varma, has made history as the first player to score three consecutive T20 centuries. The 22-year-old Hyderabad captain achieved this remarkable feat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy opener against Meghalaya at Saurashtra Cricket Stadium C. Tilak smashed an extraordinary 151 off just 67 balls, setting a new record for the highest individual T20 score by an Indian male cricketer.
Tilak's electrifying innings included 14 fours and 10 sixes, surpassing Shreyas Iyer's previous record of 147 for the highest T20 score by an Indian. Batting at No. 3, he reached his half-century in 28 balls and needed only 51 deliveries to complete his century. This was his third T20 hundred in just 10 days. Powered by his sensational knock, Hyderabad posted a commanding 248/4 in 20 overs, while Meghalaya were dismissed for a mere 69.
Tilak's incredible form started during India's recent T20I series in South Africa, where he smashed centuries in consecutive matches at Centurion and Johannesburg, helping India secure a 3-1 series victory. He became only the second Indian batter, after Sanju Samson, to hit back-to-back T20I hundreds.
With this latest milestone, Tilak has now scored over 2,950 T20 runs in 90 innings, including four centuries. Known for his ability to anchor an innings while accelerating with ease, he has established himself as a vital player in both domestic and international cricket.
His performances have also made waves in franchise cricket, with the Mumbai Indians retaining him as one of their five core players ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
