Munshiganj lawyers bring out rally protesting killing of Ctg lawyer Saiful Islam Alif
The Munshiganj District Nationalist Lawyers Forum has held a protest march and rally in protest against the killing of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif in an attack by alleged Iskcon supporters in Chattogram.
The rally was held at the premises of the Munshiganj Bar Association on today (27 November) around 2pm.
The lawyers brought out the rally from in front of the Bar Association building and passed through the Deputy Commissioner's office, the District and Sessions Judge's Court premises and the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court premises, and ended in front of the Bar Association building, where the lawyers held a rally.
The rally was moderated by General Secretary of the District Nationalist Lawyers Forum Advocate Md Jahangir Hossain Dhali and also spoke at the rally were President of forum Advocate Md Tota Mia, Former President of the Bar Association Advocate Mujibur Rahman, Member Secretary of the District Bar Association Advocate Mahbub Ul Alam Swapan, and district BNP leader and public prosecutor Advocate Halim Hossain, District Nationalist Lawyers Forum Member Advocate Sumon Sardar, Former General Secretary of the Bar Association Advocate Masud Alam, Advocate Faruk Ahmed, District Nationalist Party Leader and Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Arif Ahmed, Advocate Parvez Alam, Advocate Sohel Hossain, and Advocate Maruf Hossain.
Also present at the time were Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Noor Hossain, Advocate Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, Advocate Iqbal Hossain, Advocate Asaduzzaman Eco, Advocate R Ahmed Russell, Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Dhali, Government Strategist Advocate Noor Hossain Bepari, Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Roksana Akhter Lucky, Advocate Halim Byapari, Advocate Nilufar Yasmin Maksuda, Advocate Tanzil Hossain, and others.
At the time, the speakers strongly condemned and protested the murder of Chattogram Advocate Saiful Islam Alif. Along with that, they gave a stern warning against the Iskcon members.
Earlier, on Tuesday (26 November) at around 11am, when former ISKCON Bangladesh leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was produced before the court of Chattogram 6th Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam, his lawyers applied for bail. After the hearing, the court rejected the bail and ordered him to be sent to jail.
A large group of people believed to be supporters of former ISKCON Bangladesh leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari blocked the prison van carrying him to jail for about two and a half hours. Later, the police dispersed the protesters by throwing sound grenades and took Chinmoy to jail.
Severely injured during the protest, lawyer Saiful Islam Alif was rescued from the alley of Rangam Cinema Hall opposite the main entrance to the court and taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
