Students at DU stage demo protesting ‘India's interference’ in Bangladesh
A group of students staged a demonstration at Dhaka University pressing forth eight demands, including resisting India's alleged interference in Bangladesh's internal affairs as well as former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's extradition from the neighbouring country.
They also demanded the ban of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
This afternoon (29 November), a group of students, united under the banner of the 'Anti-Aggression Student-People', gathered at the Raju Sculpture within the university campus to voice their grievances, including border killings, religious persecution in India, and alleged attempts to instigate communal strife in Bangladesh.
Following the gathering, the protesters marched through the campus.
Students accused the Indian government of inciting communal tensions in Bangladesh, exploiting religious differences to destabilise the country and demonstrated their 8-point demands.
At the gathering, the President of the Student Rights Council, Bin Yamin Molla, said, "India is killing people on our border every week. Minorities in their own country are being persecuted daily. Recently, several Muslims were killed in an incident centered around a mosque. Yet, they come to interfere in our internal affairs based on rumors."
"India is instigating communal riots in Bangladesh. Considering the equity in our relationship, we cannot consider India as a friendly nation," he added.
The protesters' demanded an end to border killings, a review of agreements signed with India in last 16 years, and the assurance of fair water-sharing from shared rivers.
