Hasina’s trial to be held in absentia if India fails to extradite her: Toby Cadman
The trial might go to ICJ, he added
Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's trial will be carried out in the country in her absence if India fails to comply with an extradition request, Special Adviser to the chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal Toby Cadman said today (11 December).
"I don't know what India will do about Sheikh Hasina's return to Bangladesh. But if India does not have her return here, her trial will continue in her absence," he said in response to reporters after a meeting of the tribunal's prosecution team and probe agency regarding the July-August mass killings.
Toby said international standards are being followed in the trial of the July-August mass killings.
"Two or three articles of the tribunal can be amended through discussion. There is a chance the trial might go to the International Court of Justice (ICJ)," added.
Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam and Mizanul Islam, prosecutor with the status of additional attorney general, were present at the meeting, among others.
