Police rescue man abandoned by son on corona suspicion

A father could not think that his son would not come to his rescue when he fell on the floor at Sonali Bank corporate branch in Barishal city on Thursday.

The elderly man came to withdraw money from his pension fund. While he was standing on a queue for receiving the money, he suddenly fell on the floor. He showed coronavirus-like symptoms.

Bank officials contacted the elderly man's son over phone and requested him to take his father to a hospital. However, the son refused to come saying he did not want to hear anything more about his father's disease, according to bank staff.

The ailing old man also talked to his son on phone and requested him to come to him but the son was unmoved. What is more, the son disconnected his father's call out of resentment, making the poor father shed tears silently.

"I gave my son Tk1 lakh even a month ago to fulfill his demand. Every father dreams that his son will remove his sufferings and pains in his old age but now the reality is totally opposite," said the father, a retired government employee.

However, as it is said humanity is still alive the man although abandoned by his son was rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.

Being informed of the matter, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali police station under Barishal Metropolitan Police (BMP) Md Nurul Islam rushed to the spot to rescue the ailing man. He stood beside him with love and care.

The police officer took the elderly man to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital. He is looking after the helpless man.

"I requested the son over phone to take care of his father but he asked me to carry on my duty," said the OC, adding that the elderly man has been suffering two-fold pains -- one is the negligence of his son and the other is his disease. However, he still wants his son to be happy.

"I brought seven patients who were left alone by their dear ones at different places of the city to the hospital."

This is a chance to show the best human characteristics and come to the help of the helpless and the BMP is trying to follow this ideology. Police is ready to respond quickly to any need of the people, he concluded.
