Tk69cr illegal wealth: ACC sues Nowfel, Harun, Pani Jahangir, 3 others

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed six separate cases against as many people, including former education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel, former chief of DMP's Detective Branch Harun-Or-Rashid, and Md Jahangir Alam, former personal assistant to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, for amassing illegal wealth worth more than Tk69 crore.
ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the development this afternoon (17 December), saying the cases were filed at the anti-graft watchdog's Dhaka Integrated District Office.
The other three accused include Harun's wife Shirin Aktar and brother ABM Shahriar and Kamrun Nahar, wife of Jahangir, popularly known as Pani Jahangir - who is already accused of amassing a fortune of Tk400 crore.
In the case against him, Jahangir has been accused of accumulating over Tk18.29 crore worth of assets beyond known income sources, according to ACC.
His wife Nahar is accused of amassing more than Tk 6.80 crore worth of unexplained wealth despite being a housewife.
Former police official Harun has been accused of amassing over Tk17.51 crore illegal wealth by abusing his power.
His wife Shirin and brother Shahriar also amassed more than Tk10.76 crore and Tk12.96 crore, respectively, with Harun's help, according to ACC.
Three separate cases have been filed against the three of them. Harun has also been named as an accused in the two cases against Shirin and Shahriar.
Meanwhile, Nowfel has been accused of accumulating illegal wealth worth over Tk2.94 crore.
