At least 30 shops were burnt to ashes when a fire broke out at a market in Munshiganj in the wee hours of today (19 December).
The fire incident took place at Ali Ahmed Market at Bhaterchar Bus Stand under Munshiganj's Gazaria upazila around 3am, said fire service offcials.
Confirming the matter, Station Officer of Gazaria Fire Service Rifat Mallik said receiving the information, four units from two stations brought the blaze under control after three hours of efforts.
"Fire broke out at a saloon at first. Later, the fire spread to the adjoining shops, which included grocery, plastic and hardware shops. Hundreds of people came out on the street during this time, and fire service officials brought the situation under control after three hours around 6am," Rifat said.
Rifat added the reason behind the fire along with the estimate about the losses will be known after an investigation.
