'Why the sudden March for Unity?' asks BNP leader Annie
"When you hold a march calling for national unity, don’t we feel hurt? You should come to your senses,” he said
BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie today (1 January) questioned the student leaders' intention behind holding the 'March for Unity' in the capital's Central Shahid Minar yesterday.
"The young generation has played an important role for the country in the last one year. The whole country is watching the students. Why the sudden March for Unity?" he said while speaking at a discussion in Dhaka on the occasion of Chhatra Dal's founding anniversary.
Addressing the interim government and leaders of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, he said, "You had held meetings with all political parties including the BNP to form national unity. When you hold a march calling for national unity, don't we feel hurt? You should come to your senses."
The BNP leader further questioned in whose interest the 'March for Unity' was held.
"In our larger interest, we need to unite to demand Sheikh Hasina's trial. We also want unity, we also want justice for Sheikh Hasina and her cronies. Democratic Bangladesh will be built on the basis of national unity," he said.
