Snatched from police custody: Jubo Dal leader expelled, 3 arrested, OC withdrawn
Jubo Dal leader Tariqul, an accused named in a criminal case, was forcibly taken from Srinagar Police Station last night by a large group of BNP activists following his arrest
Police have arrested three people in connection with the snatching of Jubo Dal leader Tariqul Islam, an accused in a criminal case, from Srinagar Police Station in Munshiganj.
The officer in charge (OC) of Srinagar Police Station, Kaiyum Uddin Chowdhury, was also withdrawn over the incident today (11 January).
Munshiganj Police Superintendent (SP) Samsul Alam Sarkar confirmed both the arrest and suspension of the OC. He said, "Three people were arrested following the filing of a case over the snatching incident, and efforts are underway to arrest the others."
The identities of the arrestees could not be known as of filing the report.
Meanwhile, the central committee of Jubo Dal, the youth wing of the BNP, has expelled the accused leader, Tariqul Islam, from all positions, including his primary membership.
"Tariqul was expelled from the organisation due to clear allegations of obstructing the work of the state law enforcement agencies by showing muscle power," reads a statement signed by Minhajul Islam Bhuiyan, deputy office secretary of Jubo Dal.
Mentioning that Jubo Dal will not take any responsibility for the expelled members, the statement asked members of the organisation to refrain from keeping any organisational ties with the expelled members.
Srinagar police arrested Tariqul, 40, in a case filed over a previous incident of violence. He was forcibly snatched from Srinagar Police Station on Friday night (10 January) by a group of BNP activists.
