Prime Bank sponsors 10th national school cricket tournament
In collaboration with the Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) Game Development Committee, Prime Bank PLC has launched the 10th edition of the Prime Bank National School Cricket Tournament for the 2024-25 season.
This year's tournament aligns with the Youth Festival-2025 initiative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Since 2015, Prime Bank has partnered with the BCB to nurture young cricketing talent across Bangladesh. This year, over 7,000 students from 351 schools across 64 districts are participating in the tournament, with 585 matches scheduled. The district-level matches commenced on January 20th, followed by divisional and national rounds.
A press conference was held at the BCB Media Centre to mark the tournament's launch, where the official jersey was unveiled. Mr. Mohammad Nazim A. Chowdhury, Deputy Managing Director of Prime Bank PLC, and Mr. Syed Raihan Tariq, Senior Assistant Vice President and Head of Brand and Communications, represented Prime Bank at the event. Mr. Fahim Sinha, BCB Director and Chairman of the Game Development Committee, was also present.
Mr Mohammad Nazim A. Chowdhury said at the event, "School cricket holds a special place in our hearts. Prime Bank has been associated with this tournament for a decade now, and we have witnessed its significant impact on nurturing young cricketers. Over the years, many players who have participated in this tournament have gone on to represent the country at the highest level. Prime Bank is proud to contribute to the growth of cricket in Bangladesh, especially at the grassroots level. We commend the BCB for successfully organising this tournament."
Mr Fahim Sinha stated, "We aim to enhance talent scouting in this year's Prime Bank National School Cricket Tournament. We will ensure that district coaches or their representatives are present to identify promising young cricketers at every match. Additionally, we are organising orientation courses for school cricket coaches and game teachers. We seek the cooperation of all stakeholders to make this, the largest cricket tournament in the country, a resounding success."
Since its inception in 2015, the Prime Bank National School Cricket Tournament has witnessed the participation of 3,157 schools.
Over 67,535 young cricketers have played in 5,544 nationwide matches, making it the most significant cricket tournament at any level in Bangladesh. 1 Every year, Prime Bank awards scholarships to the top 15 performers based on the recommendations of the BCB's age-group selection panel.
