Dr Sabrina suspended from NICVD

The health ministry today suspended JKG Health Care Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) for her alleged involvement in providing fake Covid-19 test certificates.
Dr Sabrina, a registrar doctor of the government healthcare institute, was temporarily dismissed as per government service rule 2018, said a suspension order signed by Health Secretary Abdul Mannan on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, police arrested Dr Sabrina, wife of JKG Health Care Chief Executive Officer Ariful Chowdhury who was also arrested earlier on the same allegation.
The notice read that Dr Sabrina was involved in the private institute - JKG Health Care as its chairman while working in the government institute. Police arrested her for her involvement in providing fake Covid-19 test certificates and money embezzlement.
Being a government employee, it is a punishable offence to hold the post of chairman in a private institution without the permission of the government and also embezzlement according to law.
On Sunday, Dr Sabrina was summoned to the police station for quizzing initially and later in the afternoon, she was shown arrested in the case after the interrogation.
Jobeda Khatun General - JKG Health Care, a sister concern of Oval Group, came into discussion when police, on June 23, detained five people in the capital for their alleged involvement in providing Covid-19 test certificates without testing samples.
Later on June 24, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revoked the permission that allowed JKG Health Care to collect Covid-19 samples, set up sample collection centres and provide training.
The DGHS in this regard issued a circular, signed by its Additional Director General Professor Dr Nasima Sultana.
