ACC sues ex-state minister Sharif Ahmed for amassing Tk3.83cr illegally
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against Sharif Ahmed, former Awami League MP from Mymensingh-2 and former state minister for housing and public works, for allegedly amassing wealth totalling Tk 3.83 crore illegally.
He abused his power and acquired wealth beyond his known sources of income, ACC Director General Akhter Hossain told reporters today (30 January).
The ACC also asked for submission of wealth statements from Sharif's wife Shefali Begum, his father-in-law Golam Mostafa, mother-in-law Jahanara Begum, and brothers-in-law Shah Alam and Mohammad Shamim over allegations of acquiring wealth beyond their disclosed income sources, said Akhter Hossain.
According to the ACC official, Sharif Ahmed had acquired moveable and immoveable assets worth Tk3.83 crore illegally while he was holding an important position in the government.
"He has committed a punishable offence through suspicious deposits of Tk23.08 crore across 12 bank accounts in his name, with most of the amount was later withdrawn under suspicious circumstances," he stated.
However, the official did not specify the timeline of these questionable transactions.
