3 advisers inaugurate canal excavation with red carpet entry
The event marked the launch of renovation activities for six canals under Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporations in Mirpur-13
Three advisers of the interim government inaugurated canal excavation work in Dhaka today (2 February), stepping onto a red carpet before boarding a floating excavator.
The event marked the launch of renovation activities for six canals under Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporations in Mirpur-13.
Present at the inauguration were Environment, Forest, Climate Change, and Water Resources Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Housing, Public Works, and Industry Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, and Local Government, Rural Development, Cooperatives, and Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan.
When asked whether this initiative would face the same fate as previous canal rescue efforts—launched by the mayors with fanfare but left incomplete—Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan responded to The Business Standard, "I did not notice that [the red carpet being there], maybe you noticed it."
"If we think like, 'Canals were not rescued before, so what is the point of taking up this activity again now?', then what can we do? We will not be able to complete the whole thing in our eight or fourteen months, but we can at least make a start," she added.
