Bangladesh Ansar and VDP celebrates 77 years and 45th national assembly
The 77th anniversary of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) and the 45th national assembly were celebrated today at the Ansar-VDP Academy in Safipur, Gazipur.
The Honourable Adviser graced the event to the interim government on Home Affairs, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was the chief guest. Other advisers, the Chief Election Commissioner, senior military and civil officials, and members of various force ranks were also present.
The chief guest delivered a speech highlighting the illustrious history, ongoing activities, and the force's plans. He emphasised that Bangladesh Ansar and VDP are crucial in maintaining law and order and ensuring social security. In recent years, force members have displayed remarkable bravery and efficiency in tackling various challenges. During the mass uprising in August 2024, members of the force played a key role in safeguarding police stations and various government and private institutions. Ansar members have worked professionally during national crises to improve road safety and traffic management. To maintain peace and stability in remote hilly regions, 16 Ansar battalions coordinate with the army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and the police. Additionally, 6,000 Ansar battalion members and 13,000 Hill Ansar and Hill VDP members have been deployed to ensure security in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

The force members also provide security at key national installations, diplomatic missions, and industrial establishments. Currently, 51,667 general Ansar and VDP members are deployed across 5,757 government, autonomous, and private institutions. The force includes 39 male Ansar battalions, two female Ansar battalions, and a specialised Ansar Guard Battalion (AGB) stationed at various critical locations. Specially trained Ansar Guard Battalion members provide security at the US Embassy, the Embassy of Palestine, the UAE Embassy, the American International School in Dhaka, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, and state guesthouses.
