Tk48 lakh fined for violating environmental law in Ctg
The fines were imposed after an investigation by the department’s Chattogram office
Five companies and four persons have been fined Tk48 lakhs in separate cases by the Department of Environment in Chattogram for violating environmental law on Wednesday.
Of the companies, Sitakunda Royal Cement Ltd and Confidence Cement were fined Tk30 lakh and Tk3 lakh, while KYCR Coil Industries, Singer Bill Brick Brahmanbaria and National Cement Ltd were fined Tk5 lakh, Tk2 lakh and Tk3 lakh respectively for not having environmental clearance.
Meanwhile, the persons were fined Tk5 lakh for cutting hills in different areas of the region.
The fines were imposed after an investigation by the department's Chattogram office.
Nur Hasan, an inspector of the Department of Environment, said that the institutions were fined in accordance with Section 7 of Bangladesh Environment Protection Act-1995.
The department has warned that legal action will be taken against the companies and persons if they disobey the order, he added.
