11 arrested in Ctg for robbery attempt posing as intel agents
Police have arrested 11 individuals involved in an attempted robbery at a residence in the Khulshi area of Chattogram city.
The suspects reportedly posed as members of an intelligence agency to gain access to the flat of former Jamuna Oil Company Limited Managing Director Gias Uddin Ansari, in the early hours of Saturday (25 January).
Faisal Ahmed, deputy commissioner of City Police (North), confirmed the arrests and said, "We have taken 11 individuals into custody, while two others managed to escape during the operation."
Local residents helped police apprehend the suspects.
The arrested individuals are Md Wazed, 36, Md Hossain, 42, Rubel Hossain, 25, Mohi Uddin, 45, Abdus Sabur, 37, Md Yakub, 35, Mozaher Alam, 55, Md Romel, 41, Osman, 24, Abdul Mannan, 35, and Shawkat Akbar, 28.
Police recovered a Chinese axe, a toy pistol, and fake identity cards from the suspects. A detailed investigation into the incident is underway.
According to police sources, the suspects arrived in a microbus at a multi-storey building on Khulshi Road No. 3. They introduced themselves to the building's security guards as intelligence agency personnel. Once inside, they restrained the guards and proceeded to the eighth-floor flat of Gias Uddin Ansari.
At the time of the incident, Ansari and his family were away on a trip. The suspects broke down the door and entered the flat, vandalising and destroying household belongings.
Jalal Uddin Ansari, the brother of Gias Uddin, explained, "My brother's family was not home during the incident. Taking advantage of their absence, this group posed as intelligence officers, broke into the flat, and caused significant damage."
