Celebrate Eid without fear: RAB
DG RAB said they are ready to thwart any terror and subversive activity centring the Eid-ul-Adha celebration
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said it is on alert to tackle any untoward incident and assured all-out preparation for a peaceful Eid celebration.
"All of you come to offer the Eid prayer without any fear," RAB Director General Abdullah Al- Mamun said Thursday.
Police recently received intelligence that banned militant outfits could try to carry out attacks centring the Eid. Followed by the tip-off, security measures were beefed up considering the recent developments.
Amid the security concern, there was an explosion in the Dhaka's Pallabi Police Station Wednesday which left five people including the Officer-in-Charge injured. Terrorism watchdog SITE Intelligence Group subsequently said Middle-East-based militant organisation Islamic State (IS) claimed the responsibility for the explosion.
However, Saiful Islam, deputy commissioner of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said that the claim is "fake".
Amid such developments, RAB DG Abdullah Al- Mamun said they were closely monitoring the militant outfits' online activities.
"We are ready to thwart any terror or subversive activity," he told the press after visiting Diabari cattle market in Dhaka's Uttara.
The RAB chief said the battalion always takes the highest preparation centring any occasion and does its best to keep the celebration smooth.
"We have countrywide surveillance and close monitoring. Our reserve force is also prepared. Our mobile teams are patrolling, and additional check-posts have been set up," he added.
