Bangladesh sends goodwill aid to Lebanon
The goodwill aid includes 09 tons of food items, 02 tons of medicines and medical supplies
The government has sent goodwill aid for the people of Lebanon on behalf of the people of Bangladesh.
The goodwill aid includes 09 tons of food items, 02 tons of medicines and medical supplies, said a press release issued by the Bangladeshi embassy in Beirut.
A transport aircraft of Bangladesh Air Force with 09 tons of food items, 02 tons of medicines and medical supplies including 04 high level officers of Bangladesh Navy, an officer of Bangladesh Army and 12 crew member of Bangladesh Air Force arrived at Rafic Hariri International Airport, Beirut, Lebanon on Monday.
The Ambassador of Bangladesh to Lebanon Major General Md Jahangir Al Mustahidur Rahman, psc handed over the goodwill aid to the nominated local representative of the Lebanese Government.
Officials of Lebanese Defense Ministry, UNIFIL and Embassy officials were present during the occasion.
Two powerful explosions took place at the port of Beirut on August 4, which caused extensive damage to Beirut including the port and its 10 km radius.
More than 160 people were killed in the blast and 6,000 have been injured. The blast in Beirut has left more than 300,000 people homeless.
Bangladesh Navy's warship, BNS Bijoy which patrols Lebanese water territory under UNIFIL, was partially damaged in the blast and 21 officers and sailors were injured. Besides, so far 05 Bangladeshi nationals have been killed and more than 100 are injured in the explosion.
