How three Sinha murder prime accused are leading prison life

The suspended officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf police station, Pradeep Kumar Das, who allegedly amassed illegal wealth worth more than Tk200 crore, had to eat normal food provided at the Cox's Bazar District Jail for a lack of his "personal cash" facility in the prison.

A deputy jailer told The Business Standard that every prisoner can take the personal cash facility according to the jail code.

"But no member of Pradeep's family contacted the jail authority till August 13. So, he had to have the scheduled normal food of the prison for at least a week," he said.

"Later, on August 14, Pradeep's family members came to the prison and asked for the personal cash facility to give him better food from the prison's canteen. Since Friday, the suspended OC has been enjoying the facility in exchange for cash," he added.

Another source said Pradeep had to take the regular meal containing paratha, and dal or vegetables or halua for breakfast, and rice, dal, vegetables and fish or meat for both lunch and dinner for at least a week.

"Once he was a 'monster,' but now he had to face the consequences of his misdeeds. No one came to meet him in the first week of his prison life. That is also a lesson in his life," a prisoner who came out on bail on Sunday afternoon told The Business Standard.

Pradeep is currently staying in room-4 of cell-4. His associate Liakat Ali is in room-5 of cell-2, and Nandalal Rakshit is staying in room-2 of cell-3 in the Cox's Bazar District Jail.

Md Mokammel Hossain, superintendent of Cox's Bazar District Jail, told The Business Standard, "The three policemen, who are the prime accused in Sinha murder case, are now kept in different cells. They are enjoying all facilities according to the jail code."

To evade a possible conflict between the trio and other prisoners who claimed to have been falsely implicated in narcotics cases in Teknaf-Maheskhali area, the Cox's Bazar jail authority kept the former in different cells, a deputy jail superintendent told The Business Standard.

Another source at the prison told The Business Standard that the jail guards have to provide food to the three accused in their rooms so that other prisoners cannot attack them.

"On the very first day in prison, Pradeep came out of his room to take the food, and a few prisoners got furious and tried to beat him. That is why there is no option for them to come out of their rooms for security purpose," the source said.

The source also said that Pradeep requested the jail authority to allow him talk to his family members over the phone, but the authority denied the request.

Pradeep is passing idle time inside the prison while Liakat and Nandalal are performing their religious rituals, said a source.

"Liakat offers prayers five times a day. He also offers nafl (optional) prayers so that he can get released," the source added.
