Former BJMC official sent to jail over embezzling around Tk7.44cr
Two other accused are currently out on bail
A Khulna court today sent a former manager (production) of Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation's (BJMC) Khulna Region Office to jail in a case over embezzling around Tk7.44 crore.
Metropolitan Special Sessions Judge Shahidul Islam sent Shankar Chandra Bhuiyan to jail after rejecting his bail prayer.
On August 26, 2019, the anti-graft watchdog submitted a charge-sheet accusing BJMC's suspended general manager Jahangir Hossain, former manager (production) of Platinum Jubilee Jute Mill Liaquat Hossain and Shankar Chandra in the case filed by ACC with Khalishpur Police Station on December 9, 2016.
Advocate Khandaker Mojibur Rahman of ACC said Shankar and other accused embezzled 1529.29 tonnes of waste rolls of jute products worth around Tk7.44 crore by showing fake weight of the goods.
Two other accused are currently out on bail.
