Another case filed against Sinha murder accused Liakat
The case was filed based on a 2014 complaint against 13 people, including Liakat and nine other policemen
A case has been filed against Inspector Liakat Ali, accused in the murder case of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan, over allegations of extorting money by threatening crossfire.
Jasim Uddin, 55, a businessman from Chattogram, filed the case with the court of Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Salem Noman on Wednesday noon.
The case was filed based on a 2014 complaint against 13 people, including Liakat and nine other policemen.
Liakat was working as a sub-inspector of the Chattogram Detective Branch of police at that time.
The plaintiff in the case alleged that Liakat had extorted money from him in 2014 by threatening to kill him in a crossfire in different times.
He also alleged that Liakat had kept him in jail, tortured him in various ways, and later filed an extortion case against him.
"The Chattogram Metropolitan Police has directed the deputy commissioner (north) of the Detective Branch to investigate the allegations," said plaintiff's lawyer Jewel Das.
Following the allegations, the court directed an inquiry against seven people, including Liakat and two other policemen.
Liakat was arrested in connection with Sinha murder in Cox's Bazar and is now in jail.
Apart from him, the others against whom the inquiry was directed are Nazrul and Hannan, sub-inspectors of Cumilla's Daudkandi Police Station at that time; and SM Sahabuddin, Vishnupad Palit, Kajal Kanti Vaidya and Ziaur Rahman, the plaintiff's business rivals.
The other six accused in the case are then sub-inspectors of the Detective Branch Santosh Kumar and Kamrul, then sub-inspector of Sadarghat Police Station Talat Mahmud, Officer-in-Charge Pranab Chowdhury, Morzina Begum of Daudkandi Police Station (now officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station), and then additional deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch Babul Akhtar.
