Two Chattogram post office staff held for ‘embezzling’ Tk46 lakh
The mishap was identified during an internal audit
The post office authorities in Chattogram have handed over two of its employees to police on Thursday with an allegation of embezzling Tk46 lakh of three depositors.
The accused are - Nur Muhammad, Chattogram post office headquarters' assistant postmaster (Savings) and Sarowar Alam Khan, counter operator of the same branch.
The post office authorities handed them over to Kotwali Police after knowing the mishaps during an internal audit, Md Kamruzzaman, inspector (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station told The Business Standard.
"We will take necessary action against them," he added.
Rajib Pal, inspector of Chattogram post office said, "Two of the accused embezzled Tk45 lakh from three users rather than depositing the money in their respective accounts. We handed them over to the police after talking to higher authorities."
