DB arrests 4 with Tk65 lakh fake notes
The gang makes and trades fake notes targeting big festivals like Eid and Puja
The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested four members of a gang with fake notes of Tk65 lakh from Demra area in the capital on Sunday.
AKM Hafiz Akter, additional commissioner of the DB, confirmed it at a press conference at the DMP media centre on Tuesday.
The charge of making counterfeit notes was pressed against the arrestees – Yusuf Ali, Abdur Rahim alias Helal Hossen Rahim, Fazle Rabbi Mia, and Jahid Islam.
"We have got names of several members of the gang. Our team is trying to arrest them. A case has been filed in this connection with Demra Police Station," said Hafiz.
Alauddin, additional deputy commissioner of the cyber and special crime division of the DB, told The Business Standard the gang has a strong network in the capital.
They have a team that buys products from grocery shops using fake notes. They make and trade fake notes targeting big festivals like Eid and Puja.
"They usually sell Tk1 lakh notes for Tk10,000 in the first step. In the second step, Tk1 lakh fake notes are sold for Tk15,000-20,000, and then Tk50,000-60,000. Finally, Tk1 lakh fake notes are sold for the same value in retail," Hafiz elaborated.
The DB also recovered a laptop, two printers, and other instruments from the group.
