Permanent outlet for jute products opened in Dhaka
“Jute farmers are now getting decent prices for their produces and the industry has a good future”
Customers of jute products in Dhaka can now get their coveted items throughout the year as a permanent exhibition and sales centre has been opened in the capital’s Motijheel area.
The Jute Diversification Promotion Centre, under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, has opened the outlet at Karim Chamber in Motijheel.
To mark the occasion, a five-day fair titled “Diversified Jute Goods Fair” began on Wednesday with 30 stalls showcasing their products.
“There is a huge potential market for jute products in the country and enhancing its use locally we can boost the market,” said Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun while inaugurating the display and sales center.
“Jute farmers are now getting decent prices for their produces and the industry has a good future,” said Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi who was present at the event.
Md Belayet Hossain, acting secretary of the Jute Ministry, presided over the inauguration programme.
Considering economic and environmental importance of jute, the ministry established the Jute Diversification Promotion Centre in 2002.
