HC orders removal of Noakhali woman torture video

The High Court has ordered the removal of a video on the torture, humiliation and attempted rape of a housewife by tying and undressing her in Begumganj in Noakhali. The video went viral on social media.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Mohiuddin Shamim passed the order on Monday after taking the published reports over the incident into account.
At the same time, the court has ordered the formation of a committee to investigate if there was any negligence of duty by police regarding the incident. The committee should be composed of three members with an additional deputy commissioner in head as directed by the court.
Besides, it asked the authorities concerned to provide all kinds of security for the victim's family.
Meanwhile, RAB arrested Badal, the main accused in the case from Narayanganj and Delwar from Dhaka on Monday morning. Earlier on Sunday, police arrested two other people over the incident. The victim filed a case against nine people under the Pornography and Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act.
According to local sources, the woman was married 18 years ago. She moved to her father's house a few years ago after her husband remarried. Her mother died and father remarried and lived elsewhere. She has a son and a daughter. The daughter is married.
The woman lives at her home with her son and a brother. Her husband came to meet the housewife on September 2. At that time, local scoundrels tied him up claiming that he was a stranger. Then they entered the house, stripped the housewife naked and tortured her. They recorded everything on video. The perpetrators also detained her husband. Later, the woman's brother gave them Tk 1,500 and rescued her.
As the culprits were influential, a month passed after the incident but no one opened their mouths out of fear. However, recently the video spread through social media. After the video went viral, there was a storm of protest on social media, and everyone demanded justice over this cruel and barbaric incident.
Eklashpur Union Parishad acting chairman Firoz Alam Bhuiyan said the perpetrators of the heinous incident should be arrested as soon as possible.
Noakhali Police Super Md Alamgir Hossain said, "No one involved in the incident of torturing the housewife will be spared. Five units of the district police are working in the field to arrest the accused and provide legal assistance to the victim's family.
