Rape, torture becomes a regular occurrence by ruling party men: Fakhrul
"Its level has increased so much that it cannot be ended by just standing in front of the press club and holding a protest rally with speeches"
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the incidents of sexual harassment, rape and torture in the country have become a regular occurrence by Awami League's student organisations and their leaders and activists.
He made the comment while speaking as the chief guest at an anti-rape rally of BNP in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday.
He said, "Government workers are involved in those rape and torture incidents happening in the country. Its level has increased so much that it cannot be ended by just standing in front of the press club and holding a protest rally with speeches."
Taking part in the rally, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said, "The people of the country are not in a good situation today. Rape cases have been increasing significantly over the last few days. If those involved in these things were properly punished, the criminals won't do it. Rapists know that they will not be punished."
People all over the country are protesting against this serious issue ignoring the fear of coronavirus, he added.
