A housewife (22) was gang-raped in the Chandgaon area of Chattogram on 8 October around 11.20pm.
The victim was returning to her home from Rangunia when eight to ten perpetrators stopped her auto-rickshaw in Maulvi pukur par area and raped her.
Bijoy Bosak, deputy commissioner (North) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, has confirmed the arrest of eight people involved in the incident.
According to the deputy commissioner, the victim was returning to her home in the Chawk Bazar area of the city on a CNG auto-rickshaw. She switched to an auto-rickshaw on Kaptai Road.
The perpetrators stopped the auto-rickshaw on Arkan Road, dragged the victim to a nearby lane and raped her.
Upon receiving the news, the police arrived at the scene and found the victim, who later was admitted at the One-Stop Crisis Centre of Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Although the perpetrators managed to flee the scene, an operation led by Bijay Bosak managed to arrest eight of them.
Among the arrestees, four are auto-rickshaw drivers: Jahangir Alam (38), Md Yousuf (32), Debu Borua (31), and Rintu Datta (30). The others are: Md Ripon (27), Md Sujon (24), Shopkeeper Md Shahed (24), and Monowara Begum (55).
