PBI looking for ‘missing’ SI Akbar in police custody death case

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has been looking for the 'missing' suspended sub-inspector (SI) Akbar in a case Sylhet filed last for the death of Rayhan Ahmed at Bandarbazar Police Outpost.

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), Chief Deputy Inspector General Banaj Kumar Majumder, confirming the matter at a press briefing on Thursday, said that the 'fugitive' sub-inspector is crucial for the investigation in the case.

"We are also looking for him, and we have sent letters to all air and land ports so that he cannot leave the country," Banaj said.
"A team of PBI has already visited the scene and we have got the case docket on Tuesday night. Hopefully we can solve the issue very soon," he added.
PBI chief said that they have filed an appeal to exhume Rayhan's body to perform a second post-mortem, and the Sylhet Medical College authority has been urged to form a board to oversee the autopsy.
When asked, if Rayhan was murdered for Tk10,000, the PBI chief responded that the investigation into the case has started and they will look into all possibilities.
On Sunday (11 October), 34-year-old Rayhan Ahmed died in police custody following torture, alleged his family.
Four police officers of the Bandarbazar Police Outpost, including SI Akbar Bhuiyan, were suspended and three others were withdrawn from duty in Sylhet following the incident.
