Masud joined as Foreign Secretary on December 31, 2019
The government has promoted Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen to the rank of senior secretary.
The Public Administration Ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday.
Masud joined as Foreign Secretary on December 31, 2019.
As a career diplomat, he has long been serving in different capacities at the Headquarters and Bangladesh's missions abroad.
Prior to his appointment as the Foreign Secretary, he had been Bangladesh's ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations since 2015.
Before that, he served as Bangladesh's ambassador to Japan from 2012 to 2015.
He also served as ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Programme (WFP) and International Fund for Agricultural Development from 2008 to 2012.
Masud served at the headquarters in different capacities. From 2006 to 2008, he was the Director-General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dhaka and was responsible for matters related to South Asia, the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), Human Rights and the United Nations.
He was Deputy High Commissioner at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi from 2004 to 2006, prior to serving as Director of Poverty Alleviation at SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu from 2001 to 2004.
From 1998 to 2001, he was Director in charge of the Foreign Ministry's United Nations Wing and Foreign Secretary's Office in Dhaka.
Masud also served as a First Secretary and Counsellor at Bangladesh High Commission, Islamabad from 1996 to1998. Prior to that, he served at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations from 1992 to 1996.
