Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, said the field adjacent to the Dhaka Alia Madrasa will be renovated and subsequently opened as a public playground.
He made the announcement during a meeting with reporters following a weekly routine visit on Wednesday to the site of the former Dhaka Central Jail in Old Dhaka, the playground adjacent to Alia Madrasa, and the projects developing in and around the Jail complex.
"I have visited the projects undertaken by the jail authorities in and around the former Dhaka Central Jail. I think a few reforms are needed in some projects because the Prime Minister envisions a beautiful ambience in this area with open spaces," the Mayor added.
"There is also a public demand to declare the playground adjacent to the Alia Madrasa open for all, and I agree to their demand," he continued.
"If the jail authorities want to develop this playground, they can do so. Otherwise, the Dhaka South City Corporation can take on the job and open it for public use, Taposh said, adding that their aim is to beautify the playground so that people can enjoy it.
Responding to a question from a reporter, the DSCC Mayor said that the projects developing in and around the former Dhaka Central Jail should be implemented in a way that forthcoming generations are aware of the sacrifices and dedication of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the collective contributions of the four national leaders to Bangladesh's independence.
