Dispute between admin and technical cadres grows sour
The leaders called upon all the engineers, agriculturists and doctors of the country to work with justice, honesty and focus to continue the current development trend
Leaders of Engineers Institution Bangladesh (EIB), Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) and Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) leaders held a meeting at Dr Kashem conference hall in Bangladesh Medical Association's central office on Sunday.
The meeting was chaired by BMA President, Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, and conducted by BMA Secretary General, Dr Md Ihteshamul Haque Chowdhury.
At the meeting, the leaders agreed that the tireless efforts of the nation's doctors, engineers and agriculturists during the covid-19 pandemic - under the firm and steady guidance of the Prime Minister - had been appreciated at home and abroad, said a press release.
The strong leadership of the PM during this crisis had ensured the protection of human life, food security and sustainable development, the press release added.
Leaders at the meeting alleged that the appointment of non-technical officers of administration cadres in various technical posts (in engineering, agriculture and health sectors) run contrary to the political manifesto of the Awami League government, its development politics and the hopes and aspirations of the people.
The meeting expressed deep resentment and concerns over these appointments and strongly condemned the same. Attendees opined that the political government would suffer as a direct result of these appointments.
Despite the Prime Minister's declaration that "the government would not take any measures that foster inter-cadre clashes", the engineers, agriculturist and doctors would not accept the prevailing activities under any circumstances whatsoever, the press release further added.
A new steering committe was formed with IEB President, Md Nurul Huda, as Convener, and BMA Secretary General, Dr Md Ihteshamul Haque Chowdhury, as Member Secretary to decide on next steps by the group of professionals. The leaders decided to set up branch committees across all of Bangladesh's districts.
Sunday's meeting was followed by a press conference to inform the nation about the state of inter-cadre inequality and the formation of a profession-based administration.
The bureaucracy's tactics are to ensure that the political government is not distracted under any circumstances and the Prime Minister is determined to continue the pro-people programme of the government by ensuring uniformity of all cadres running the country, the meeting remarked.
During Sunday's meeting, all the engineers, agriculturists and doctors of the country were called upon to work with justice, honesty and focus to continue the current development trend of the country.
EIB President, Engineer Md Nurul Huda; former EIB president, Md Abdus Sabur; EIB vice-president, Engineer SM Manjurul Haque Monju; acting KIB President, Dr Md Shahidur Rashid Bhuiyan; KIB Secretary General, Md Khairul Alam (Prince); President of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip), Dr M Iqbal Arslan; Swachip Secretary General, MA Aziz were present at the meeting among others.
