During the pandemic, the sale of electronic products has increased, and home appliances top the list. People are buying appliances online, as well as from stores.

Among the appliances, the sale of washing machines has experienced a surge as many households had to let go of domestic helps due to the lockdown, and strict social distancing measures that followed.

The Business Standard reached out to a few users of selected brands in the market to find out their user experience of the washing machine brand they chose.

Sharp offers the best features compared to other prominent brands within a similar price range. Prior to the pandemic, I bought a 15kg Sharp Full Auto Washing Machine ES-X156 for Tk34,000. Before buying this product, when I was checking the market price, I found this model to be the best option within my budget and with modern features.

I have not used any Sharp products before. However, the washing machine's good performance has convinced me to buy quite a few products from Sharp.

Me, being a 70-years-old lady, find it pretty user friendly. Most importantly, it does not create extra noise and also consumes less electricity. Within an hour, it cleans all the clothes, even if it is fully loaded.

I have not received any after-sales service as I have not faced any problems till now. I am happy with its service. However, I have received reviews from my peers that Sharp provides the best after-sales service compared to other brands.

After considering everything, I decided to buy Sharp and will suggest people to buy this brand without any hesitation.

LG, T2310VSAL

I bought the LG washing machine – T2310VSAL 10 kg – with Tk45,000. LG has a brand value and I am a regular user of this brand. When I checked the market, I found it reasonable enough. So, I just went for it.

It has smart inverter technology which saves energy and also helps the motor to perform well and its best feature is the smart washing option. As a result, it washes clothes quite well. Usually within one hour, the task is done.

It does not create noise and in the last seven months, we have not faced any issues. Thus, we did not call for any after-sales service. As it is an international brand, we hope their after-sales service will be spontaneous too.

Moreover, it offers more than 10 years' warranty. I am completely satisfied with its service and I recommend everyone to buy this as it is an appliance worth its price. But buyers need to keep an eye on market as it is tough to get the updated model.

Samsung, V90K6000CX/EU

Actually, I wanted to buy a washing machine from LG but as it was out of stock, so I decided to go for Samsung. It also comes with good features. So, we settled for a 9kg washing machine (model - DV90K6000CX/ EU) and it cost around Tk70,000.

So far, I have not faced any problem. Hence, we did not receive any after-sales service either.

However, if I could get a second chance, I would get a washing machine that came without the dryer functionality.

I have found the dryer to be an unnecessary option and it only adds price to the machine. I do not even use the dryer as it takes a long time to dry clothes and also consumes a lot of electricity.

To clean clothes, I use washing powder which is only made for front loaders as normal detergents reduce the life span of the machine.

We usually give seven kg of garments and it takes about three hours to wash. We even lower the water temperature so that it does not use the heater.

Overall, I would say the price is high. Therefore, I would suggest people to choose a washing machine that has an AddWash option, maybe from this brand or from other brand – whatever is convenient for them.

I am using Whirlpool WM 360 BW Ultra Graphite 9KG and its market price is around Tk32,500. It has been a year since I have been using the washing machine and it has been quite useful. It has made our everyday life convenient. The only negative aspect of this appliance is the sound.

Actually, Whirlpool was on top of my list as a brand when I considered purchasing a washing machine. Before making the purchase, I had some other models on my list as well however, I chose to go for Whirlpool after I got feedback from some of my peers.

In my opinion, the washing machine is a good value for money. It only takes 40 minutes to wash clothes. Till now, the service is satisfactory and it comes with a 10 years' motor warranty as well.

As there is an indicator which reads how much detergent to add, we do not need to worry about it. And, the rest of the functions are managed by the machine itself.

The after-sales team provided a proper illustration during the installation process and even ran a few trials. I would suggest people to buy this brand as it is quite user and budget friendly.

Currently, Walton is the most budget friendly brand in Bangladesh. When I decided to buy a washing machine from Walton, I was confused whether I should buy a local brand or not. But its features and budget ended up convincing me.

I am using a 7 kg washing machine – WWM-AFM70 – and it was purchased at Tk35,000. If I compare this with other international brands, I would say I saved a minimum of Tk20,000.

It comes with a built-in heater for washing clothes in hot water; this feature has been very handy amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Its wash cycle and flow chart are the same as an expensive branded machine. However, it does not have certain special features and sensors as it comes at a very competitive price. I do not consider it as a problem rather it is budget friendly and its service has been worth the price.

In the last six months, I have not faced any issues so I did not have to deal with any after-sales service complications. Though we have heard of many complaints, I am hoping that we would not have any bad experience.

People who have a tight budget can try this brand as it provides good features.
