NSU, JU students among 4 ‘militants’ held in Bogura
Detectives arrested four members of banned militant outfit 'Neo-JMB' along with arms from Chandipara area of Bogura's Shibganj upazila early Saturday.
The arrestee are- Mohammad Tanvir Ahmed alias Abu Ibrahim, student of IT department of Jahangirnagar University and member of Neo-JMB IT branch; Mohammad Zakaria Jamil, chief of Neo-JMB media branch; Abu Sayeed, and Mohammad Atiqur Rahman, student of Pharmacy department of North South University and active members of the militant outfit.
Sonaton Chakraborty, additional superintendent (media) of Bogura Police, said that acting on a tip-off a team of detective branch (DB) of police conducted a drive in the area around 1:30am while the militants were holding a meeting. Four members were arrested from there.
Mohammad Abdul Baten, deputy inspector general of Rajshahi range police, briefed on the arrest in Bogura today.
Among the arrestees, Abu Sayed was preparing to join the war in the Middle East.
Jamil used to translate Arabic messages to Bangla and disseminated across the country. He was also accused in a case filed with Ashulia Police Station, said the police official during the media briefing.
A pistol, a one shooter-gun, bomb-making materials and sharp weapons were recovered from the spot, said the official.
DB SI Firoj Hossain filed three cases with Shibganj Police Station against them.
They will be produced before the court seeking 10-day remand.
