Motive for BNP secretary general’s incoherent statements should be determined: Information Minister
The information minister requested BNP find out the reason for its secretary general’s incoherent speeches
Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said the reasons behind the BNP secretary general's contradictory statements regarding the government should be determined.
Dr Hasan Mahmud, who is also Awami League's joint general secretary, said, "BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir once said the government is behaving like a one-party system, then said it is not clear whether there is a government in the country. The reason for making such incoherent self-contradictory statements needs to be found out."
The information minister made the comment at a meeting organised at the National Press Club to commemorate the recently deceased former deputy speaker Colonel (rtd) Shawkat Ali on Friday.
Dr Hasan Mahmud attended the meeting – jointly organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote and Janatar Pratyasha – virtually, as the chief guest.
The information minister said the country is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
"People and the world community have been praising us for being one of the few countries that posted positive GDP growth as a result of economic growth even amid the pandemic," he added.
"However, during this progress of the country, conspiracies against the country have also started," warned Dr Hasan Mahmud.
In his speech, Dr Hasan Mahmud prayed for the speedy recovery of the BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and good health of Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
At the same time, he also requested BNP find out the reason for its secretary general's incoherent speeches.
Meanwhile, remembering the life and work of Colonel (rtd) Shawkat Ali, the minister said he had been a heroic freedom fighter, one of the accused in the Agartala Conspiracy case and a close companion of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Shawkat Ali played a vital role in organising Awami League after 15 August, 1975. He was a popular politician who was elected as the member of the parliament for six consecutive terms.
Dr Hasan Mahmud further said Shawkat Ali worked closely with Sheikh Hasina, too. When Awami League activists and leaders were being repressed under BNP's rule in 2001, he was very vocal about it.
Janatar Pratyasha President MA Karim presided over the programme and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote General Secretary Arun Sarkar Rana moderated it.
